What Are Concrete Foundations?
The foundation is the one part of a building nobody sees and everybody depends on, and North Texas soil makes that job harder than almost anywhere else in the country. The Blackland Prairie and Eagle Ford clay that runs under most of the Dallas metro is highly expansive — it can absorb enough water to swell several inches during a wet spring, then shrink back down during a dry August, and that seasonal movement is what cracks foundations that weren't designed for it.
We install foundations engineered specifically for that condition, most commonly post-tension slabs, which use steel cables stressed after the pour to keep the slab in compression and resist the flexing that expansive clay causes. Conventional rebar-reinforced slabs and pier-and-beam foundations both still have their place depending on the site, soil report, and structure — we work from geotechnical data and structural engineering, not a default answer.
Every foundation we pour also accounts for what happens around it, not just under it. Drainage grading, moisture barriers, and plumbing rough-in coordination all affect long-term foundation performance, and getting them wrong is a major reason foundations that were built to spec still develop problems five or ten years later.
